the river

Oh, did I mention something about working in the yard today? Please forget all about that. The boychild and I were at each other's throats from the get-go this morning. It was not looking good. He lost the Target giftcard he got for his birthday which of course started the day on a bad note. It proceeded to go downhill and fast. (Maybe there are perks to going back to school/work.)

So around 11:30 we got a phone call from a friend. She and her family and another family were headed to the river. Ah yes, water, my most soothing companion. Well, one of them anyway. I needed no convincing so I told the boy to put on his swimsuit and help me put the bag together. We had half a watermelon left from his birthday party so we loaded up a cooler, threw in some water bottles, and hit the road.

The rest of the afternoon was spent winding through Hill Country roads and swimming at our favorite water spot. We headed home around 6 because we had dinner plans at the boyfriend's house. His housemate grilled some pork ribs, he boiled some corn, and we had a lovely, filling meal. The boychild even ate a lot which is a rarity.

Lesson of the day: when life gets you down, head for water. And try to breathe on the way there.

The water is my true soul-mate. Glad your day turned around.
