Well, I'm hoping that posting in here will be more than a once a month thing. Funny how life has a way of staying too too busy. As it is I have a wheezy (again) baby reaching for me so this will be short.
I have a working sewing room that doubles as the baby's room. Not for sleeping, mind you, but for all of his clothes and diapers. Right now I'm working on some burp cloths to give to my cousin when her baby arrives. I'm also trying to get enough together to sell via a friend that has rented some local artisan space. Those and my baby cubes are it for now. I'm also working on some napkins that I am giving for :ahem: Christmas. Thankfully she is patient. Hah!
Last weekend I had the generous couple behind Dirtiest Kid in the World come over to advise me on gardening. I think I'm going to do a leaf design bed with the path down the middle with smaller ones shooting off of it. I'm collecting newspaper to start prepping my beds using the lasagna method, which they talk about. Bet you can guess what the big new homeschool project is around here!
Okay, grabby baby is now getting whiny. Ciao!

my love
Today I married the man of my dreams. Or the man that I was afraid to dream about. I don't know how I found him, but I did. Words are failing me at the moment. Oddly, this felt like perhaps the perfect time to update this poor, neglected space.
With one son by my side and the other wiggling in my belly, I promised, in front of some of our favorite people, to join this man in life. Officially. He giggled through the whole thing and I boggled at the surrealism. The only thing holding us on this planet was each other. Everyone else in that stark little room disappeared. Afterwards, we all stood on the sidewalk and laughed. Lots of pictures were taken.
We loaded back up in the cars and went to eat the best BBQ in the state. Of course, we all ate too much. We also laughed, shared stories, and generally enjoyed each other's company.
It was exactly what we both wanted.
My life is a wondrous, magical place.

episode 1, season 2
oh my! it's been an action-packed three months since i updated. a lot has changed. we moved into the new house and are settling into the routine of 2 adults + 1 kid in the house. it's a huge change from what we are all used to, and i must say, i think we are all adjusting very nicely.
i have a full year of grad school under my belt and as i enter year 2 i'm also doing my practicum as as a guardian ad litem for kids that have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. it's only just started, and i've already learned a lot about myself, the system, the kids, and a lot more. i don't know that child welfare is necessarily where i want to put the MSW to use, but i'm getting a lot out of it.
i'm still working with the boyfriend, but i'm also applying for part-time jobs in the social service field. i have an interview monday, in fact, so we'll see. i don't mind the retail but i want to be building my resume and i need to make more money. the irony of looking to the social service sector for "more money" is not lost on me.
the kid has started fifth grade, has his first broken bone (his wrist, a minor fracture), and is now part of the "safety patrol" at his school. he comes home from school and goes straight to a friend's house around the corner. he loves it. 10 is a good age and fifth grade is looking to be awesome. the other day, i got in the car after ga$$ing up and he was perusing the owner's manual of my car. when i asked what he was doing he said, "just finding out what lies within." it was awesome. have i mentioned that i love my kid?
the house is shaping up quite nicely, but we have had no time to work in the yard. we need to build a patio and we're formulating a plan but nothing has happened beyond that. i'm getting antsy.
now i need to go scare up some lunch.

Friday night
I went back to work today which has my head all turned around. I keep thinking it is Monday. Tomorrow morning I have to be at a graduate school orientation from 7:45am - 5pm, and of course this further convinces me it can't possibly be the weekend.
It was kind of nice going back. We are trying a completely new teaching model for our Special Ed students (and really the whole campus) so a lot of people are stressed out about it, but I'm doing an okay job of just going with the flow. Ask me again the night before the kids start up again and you may have a different answer....
The boychild is with his father this weekend so it was looking to be considerably more quiet around here. Unfortunately, my mom got really sick and so I'm dog watching because the puppy was going crazy in her apartment. We played fetch earlier and now we've just returned from a 30 minute walk. I was hoping that she could sleep outside tonight because there is way too much for her to chew up around here, but she is outside barking like crazy. I don't want my neighbors to hate me more than they already do.
The boyfriend had to go do some things at home and then he's stopping by the grocery store and heading back over for a late dinner. I've been craving sausage lately. (Yes, this revelation spawned endless dirty sausage jokes. We're children, what can I say. ) I'm going to cook some veggies and I'm sure we'll have rice thrown in.

the road goes on forever....
I go back to work in 5 days. This seems unreal to me, but I suppose I should get on board with the idea because a week and a half after that I start my first semester of graduate school. The boychild will be entering 4th grade. I keep wondering when life will give me a little bit of a breather but I don't see it happening any time soon.
The boyfriend and I went by my mom's house to pick up her lawn equipment. She is selling the house and has already moved into an apartment so I inherited an electric lawnmower (that I am not-so-secretly in love with), various shovels, hoes and picks, some lovely flat stones, and more aloe vera plants than I know what to do with. We spent the afternoon trying to clean up my disaster of a back yard. There was fire involved. Tomorrow I plan on mowing the driveway and front yard. If the boyfriend remembers to bring me his large clippers I'll probably attack the bushes that are threatening to swallow my house. Of course, I'll be repotting aloe veras. If you live near me, expect some plants.
I've started this blog as a way to chronicle my journey through, well, life. I occasionally look around and realize that I have a lot going on. These days the feeling is particularly overwhelming. I am in love, raising an adolescent boy, teaching junior high students, and now pursuing my MSW. Somewhere in there I have a house to keep in order and a very large yard that I want to turn into my sanctuary.
